Andres Mejia Guzman (father) is the
rich owner of Editorial America, the most important publishing house in Lima. He is the typical playboy: mature, good-looking,
adventurer and successful with women. At 42 years of age he is still unmarried, although he maintains an almost formal relationship
with the famous journalist Rebecca Montenegro. Mejia Guzman discovers that due to a tumor, he has only a few months to live.
He casually meets Fiorella Morelli, a young girl who steals his heart.
Fiorella is a good girl, shy, dreamy, unemployed,
and even whose mother, in spite of adoring her, considers her a "poor devil". Mejia Guzman marries that "poor devil" without
telling his wealthy family. The only witnesses are the bride's parents: Luciano and Chabuca. The married couple starts a three-month
trip to Europe, in which Fiorella lives a dream come true. But when they returned, Mejia Guzman died before being able to
introduce Fiorella to his relatives. For them, the news of the secret wedding is a hard blow to their pride and to their interests,
since half of the fortune now belongs to the young widow.
Fiorella must not only face the fury of the Mejia Guzman
family, but also the rancor of Andres Mejia Guzman's namesake. He is the attractive and unruly bastard son of the deceased,
fruit of a relationship with Caridad Lopez, former servant of the wealthy family. Andres (son) has been named heir in equal
parts with Fiorella. The young man, who resembles his father in attitudes and manners, sees this inheritance the way of avenging
on the Mejia Guzman family for having humiliated and fired his mother when knowing of her pregnancy.
The conceited
and controlling Mrs. Roberta, chief of the Mejia Guzman family, and her three remaining children (Paul, Patricia and Christian),
consider Fiorella and Andres (son) opportunists. Along with Rebecca and Patricia's husband (Diego), they will do even the
impossible to prevent both Fiorella and Andres (son) from keeping the inheritance that they consider belongs to them. The
attraction between Fiorella and Andres (son) is instantaneous, but when Andres finds out that he has fallen in love with his
father's widow, he despises her. A strong internal struggle begins. He loves her and at the same time he hates her because
of having been the woman of his father who he hated so much; because he now considers her a social climber; and for being
guilty of his mother's pain. Caridad cannot stand Fiorella because she did marry Mejia Guzman. The situation becomes tenser
when the lawyers communicate that the heirs must live under the same roof and share the direction of the family business.
Fiorella enters into a love-hate relationship with Andres. She decides to stay in the big house, not for the inheritance but
to stay with her stepson although love between them is not possible. On the other hand, Rebecca is also very attracted to
Andres and she has decided to conquer him to take revenge for Mejia Guzman's rebuff and to humiliate Fiorella. Sandra is also
an obstacle between them, since being the young man's secretary, she is always near him and profits from any opportunity to
try to conquer him.
Tired of so many fights with Andres, Fiorella decides to abandon the big house, because she is
not interested in the money of the Mejia Guzman family. She leaves on a trip to a small without knowing that Andres, trying
to put his ideas in order, has gone on vacation to the same place. In the picturesque little town where he grew up, the love
Fiorella and Andres feel for each other is stronger than anything else is. He finally accepts that he loves her and in one
of his many impulses he proposes to her. Madly in love she accepts. They get married civilly and they consummate their love.
When
both of them are willing to face everything to be together, Caridad discovers that they love each other and she pretends having
a heart disease. She blackmails her son and makes him promise that he will never be with Fiorella. He convinces his wife to
hide their marriage for some time and they continue their romance in secret with fights and passionate reconciliation's.
They
also face the obstacle set by Caridad, Rebeca or Sandra, the heirs face Garaban, a murderer hired by one of the Mejia Guzman's
to kill them. Garaban does not know who pays him. He only receives instructions from Barbara, the former lover of Mejia Guzman's
father, who has a close secret contact with the mysterious character that ordered the homicides.
Things get complicated
when Garaban starts killing innocent people instead of the heirs and when Fiorella finds out that she is pregnant, she asks
her husband to tell everyone the truth, but a relapse feigned by Caridad takes away Andres' courage to do it. Christian, Fiorella's
brother in law, -who initially tried to conquer her money-, has fallen in love with her. When he discovers that she is pregnant,
he proposes marriage to her to give the baby his name.
When Andres hears this he becomes jealous and offends Fiorella.
Disappointed, she files a divorce and then flees. She takes refuge in the same town where Andres and her got married. He follows
Fiorella and asks for her forgiveness but she realizes that he still prefers his mother. This is why she lies and tells him
that she has lost the baby she was expecting. After a strong argument, Andres abandons Fiorella determined to forget her.
Rebecca and Andres start a love affaire, while she has been tracked down by Barbara and by the mysterious character of the
Mejia Guzmans. Both expect now to be able to kill her. They do not succeed thanks to the intervention of Luis Alberto Miller,
owner of Editorial "Estrella", main competitor of the Mejia Guzman's publishing house.
A new love triangle starts
among Luis Alberto, Andres and Fiorella. Although Andres loves Fiorella, he is engaged to Rebecca. Although Fiorella loves
Andres she has become Luis Alberto's ally in the fight against the Mejia Guzman's publishing house, seeking revenge on all
of those who have hurt her so much. Luis Alberto proposes to her and accepts, even without loving her, for her child's welfare.
It is only at the end of the story and after many amusing anecdotes and adventures that Fiorella and Andres will be able to
fully enjoy their love, by their little son and reconciled with most the Mejia Guzmans.
