The preponderant activity in the
small village of San Benito, in the state of Veracruz, is the production and industrialization of the sugar cane. And developed
within the lush fields of the village is a story between two families and four friends, who meet as children, and the bitterness
and dishonor that provoke a lie. They also represent the love that originates during the first years of life and that doesn't
remain with the passing of the time, but instead naturally grows more and more stronger, and becomes obsessive. It is a love
which struggles against the pressures of every expense and destroys the moral concepts of both good customs and family honor.
The proprietor of the fields is Amador, a man who has always been in love with Margarita. Margarita is the wife of Amador's
hard-working and jealous best friend Fausto. They have a daughter Julia, who is extremely beautiful and who lives in the true
hell of her family's rancor. She fights against the evil surroundings from Josefina Montero. Josefina is Pablo's evil and
selfesh mother who separated her son from his roots and from the village to keep him away from Julia. Fifteen years later,
Pablo returns to San Benito because of the resentment and hatred he feels toward his mother, only to see his life changed
in the appearence of Julia. Pablo immediately falls in love with Julia, facing a great obstacle when his best friend Juan
de Dios tries to steal Julia's love from Pablo. Juan de Dios has always been in love with Julia, and the affection he feels
for Julia not only affects his friendship with Pablo, but also obliges him to fight against Pablo to obtain her love. Mireya
is Julia's best friend who madly falls in love with Juan de Dios. And like Juan de Dios, she, too, is obliged to fight against
Julia to obtain his love, since she feels that Julia has stolen it from her.
