On her deathbed, Isabel Clara summons
her childhood sweetheart, Don Antonio, and asks that he swear to care for her daughter, Esperanza. While Don Antonio and his
son, Luis Gustavo, take an immediate liking to Esperanza, Don Antonio’s wife resents her and treats her harshly. To
rid herself of the girl, she registers Esperanza at a boarding school run by nuns. Esperanza returns to care for the now elderly
Don Antonio after 10 years. Don Antonio writes a letter to his son granting his blessing, should he ever decide to marry Esperanza.
A jealous friend decides he wants Esperanza for himself, and conceals the letter to make Luis Gustavo believe she is really
his half-sister. Having fallen deeply in love with Esperanza, Luis Gustavo is horrified when he is led to believe that they
are related. He leaves the country, abandons the woman he loves and suffers in silence for a love he considers to be blasphemous.
Broken-hearted and alone, Esperanza believes he has stopped loving her. Will the truth prevail? Will their love be strong
enough to reunite them?
