Antonio Lombardo (Fernando Allende), a successful industrialist in construction, and Victoria
V. de Albeniz (Daniela Romo), a writer, fall deeply in love. The problem is that Victoria is the wife of Antonio's best
friend, Samuel Albeniz (Alejandro Tomassi). Soon, Victoria finds herself with child. Antonio believes it is time to get the
divorce from his wife, Adriana de Lombardo (Felicia Mercado). Victoria thinks she should also ask for the divorce from Samuel.
When Victoria tells Samuel that she is pregnant he gets furious, he knows he is not the father because he is sterile. After
Samuel demands an answer from Victoria, she tells the truth. Samuel goes and confronts Antonio but does not grant the divorce.
Instead, Samuel and Victoria leave Merida, Yucatan for Europe eventually settling down in London. Victoria gives birth to
twins, Bruno(David Zepeda) and Raquel(Chantal Andere). Six years after the birth of the twins, Samuel dies. But before his
death, he asks Victoria to go back to Merida and if Antonio is available, to marry him. He believes the children should be
with their real father. When Victoria comes back to Merida, Antonio's wife had died in child birth. His deceased wife
had always wanted to have children but failed several times. She did get pregnant and gave birth to Alejandro Lombardo ( William
Levy). When Antonio learns that Victoria came back, he goes to see her. Victoria and Antonio decide to start a new family
with their three children: Bruno, Raquel, and Alejandro. But they do not reveal to the twins or to Alejandro that Antonio
was the father of the twins. Years pass, and the personalities between the twins and Alejandro are obvious. Bruno does not
have the characteristics to replace his father and Antonio sees this. Antonio tells Victoria that he will be leaving everything
to Alejandro and not to Bruno. Victoria does not like this. She thinks that Bruno is his fist-born and that he is who should
inherit the majority of the Lombardo fortune. Antonio dies in a accident while having an argument with Victoria. Alejandro
does inherit most of the Lombardo's fortune but has to provide money for Bruno, Raquel, and Victoria the rest of their
lives. Alejandro does not know why his father made this decision and does follow his father's last wishes. Bruno has always
been jealous of Alejandro and this makes it worse. More years pass and Alejandro is a great industrialist, like his father.
But, behind his back, Bruno is constructing a plan to get rid of Alejandro and be the owner of everything that Alejandro owns.
He meets a young beautiful woman, Maria Jose Samaniego( Jacqueline Bracamontes). Bruno presents himself as Alejandro Lombardo.
He plans to marry her in Alejandro's name. Then plans to kill Alejandro, making Maria Jose the only owner of the fortune.
Bruno believes that Maria Jose will marry him as Bruno Alberiz later on, and both will enjoy the complete Lombardo's Fortune.
Bruno's plans are partially successful . The real Alejandro is believed to have died in a car accident after Bruno pays
a truck driver to kill him. Maria Jose, who lives in Saquin is called to be present at her "Husband's funeral".
She is desperately heartbroken by the death of her "husband". She gets even more surprised when she meets the family
and learns that Alejandro Lombardo is a very rich man. Bruno does not go to the funeral so Maria Jose would not ruin the plan.
That same night however, he goes to her room and tells her everything. Maria Jose does not believe what she hears. First,
she gets scared to see somebody she thought was dead. Then, she cannot believe that Bruno, who she thinks she loves, could
be so evil and suspects he killed the real Alejandro. Bruno tells her that he was not responsable for Alejandro's death,
and that if she does not follow his orders, he will accuse her father of robbery and illegal drug selling. Alejandro is not
dead and is rescued by Chucho who is an old man. When he returns home he finds himself with a wife and a sister-in-law at
his house. Doctors tell him he does not remember his wife because he suffers of temporary amnesia. Alejandro is not convinced.
He practically forces Maria Jose to tell him the truth. Maria Jose tells him exactly what Bruno had done. Alejandro believes
Maria Jose since Bruno has never liked him. As time passes and Alejandro gets to know Maria Jose he falls in love with her
beautiful personality and qualities. Maria Jose also falls for the fair and just man Alejandro seems to be. Bruno sees how
Alejandro has made Maria Jose fall in love with him and doesn't like it. Maria Jose hides Bruno's manipulations and
secrets from Alejandro that affect his personal life and the relationship he is building with her and although Alejandro stops
trusting Maria Jose he is in love with her and does anything for her and for her family to make her happy. The couple find
themselves surrounded by lies and plots from Maura (Alejandro's ex- girlfriend) and Bruno, making it hard for them to
be together
